The Nepali Bible Correspondence Institute

The beginning of NBCI

In 1870 the Scottish Presbyterian Mission sent their first missionaries to the Darjeeling District of West Bengal in India. Later other missions followed, among them was WEC missionary Mr. van Dycks. In the year 1955, he developed the Darjeeling Bible Correspondence Institute for all seekers among the listeners of the newly launched Christian radio broadcast linked with the DBCI. By 1966, nearly 10’000 students had enrolled to the DBCI, and it kept growing in these early years.

Later when these missionaries had to leave India, the DBCI institute was handed over to Mrs. Jill James-Cook, a missionary from the UK, with Regions-beyond Missionary Union. Mrs. Jill Cook, who was married to Mr. James, an Indian, resided in Motihari, Bihar. At that time, the name of the correspondence institute changed to NBCI. She supervised the institute for more than 20 years until 1994. Within these years another 10’000 students benefited from the profound teaching of these simple, but powerful correspondence courses, based upon the Word of God, the HOLY BIBLE.

Since a few years, NBCI shifted its office to Kathmandu, from where now our services are available to all the people of Nepal. Praise God, a new epoch has started with the introduction of all NBCI courses through the internet. In this way, we hope to make these valuable courses available and a source of eternal blessing to a much wider audience of our Nepali friends, throughout the whole world.

FOLLOWING SERVICES ARE OFFERED BY NBCI:

The correspondence courses:

The NBCI offers altogether five correspondence courses. The first four courses are basic courses, covering topics, such as creation, the fall, sin and its consequences for man, the way of salvation, the parables of the Lord Jesus in the New Testament, a study of the Gospel of John, and a personal application of these Gospel truths. On the completion of these four correspondence courses, a copy of the whole Bible we send as gift by post to each successful student. To each of these courses a certificate will be issued on completion to encourage the student to continue his study of the Bible under the guidance of NBCI, Chitwan or Kathmandu.

The 5th correspondence course called ‘Discipleship course’ is offered to those students who have no church background, and who have no access to any Bible believing Christian church. Besides the gift of the Holy Bible to each completing student, we give with each completed part of these courses some books and booklets as prizes, to round up the teaching of God’s Word with instructive and edifying materials. The first four courses will be completed in ten parts.

NBCI’s follow-up program:

For NBCI students who have completed the courses we offer a follow-up program. We invite them to a 3-4 days conference near their locality within Nepal, where they will be instructed in how to believe and follow the Lord Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour. If desired we linked them to a local church, which will build up relations with them and keep fellowship and friendship with them. For some of them such a follow-up conference is the first time and only way of meeting other Christians.

Tracts for personal use:

We offer a number of Gospel tracts to our students, for their personal use. Titles presently available are: Paisa, paisa paisa, Satyayug aundaichha, Madira kya mitho, tyasko natija kya tito, Ke Kristyan Dharma videshi Dharma, Gai khane Dharma ho?, Abako 40 dinma, Vikash, vikash, nash hune vikash ho ki?, Ke tapaai ek adhunik manis hunuhunchha?, Prakhyat manisharuka antim shabda.
